Many thanks to Rick Petrie, who joined Ocean T & T (Blue Flue & Elders) in 1978 as an Engineer Cadet, for sending the following stories and pictures taken by himself in a career which allowed him to reach the dizzy hieght of 3rd Engineer.

He has recalled some great stories of life in the 'New Ships' such as pirates at Dawes Island in Nigeria, flattening a mule train in the Panama Canal on the Barber Hector's maiden voyage, losing power on his watch in a Force 12 in the Irish Sea, being boarded by the Iranian Commandos up the gulf during the Iran Iraq war, and many more!!
